Professional membership of the CIPD sets you apart from other HR and L&D professionals. It demonstrates the knowledge, experience and relevance you bring to your employers and clients.
Upon starting your qualification you will join the CIPD as a Student member and when you have successfully completed your qualification you’ll be automatically upgraded to an Associate Member. Associate is the first level of professional membership and recognises competence in HR or L&D and entitles the recipient to use ‘Assoc CIPD’ after their name to showcase their professional credentials.
By becoming an Associate, you are part of a community of practitioners, involved in sharing and promoting best practices in the areas of HR, L&D, and broader people management and development.
As you develop your expertise and experience, professional membership can open doors to new career opportunities. Those who go on to successfully complete the Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management are eligible to apply for an upgrade to Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow.
What are the different levels?
-
Associate member (Assoc CIPD) – you are typically providing professional advice to managers across the business and supporting the HR and/or L&D function.

-
Chartered Fellow (Chartered FCIPD) – you are typically leading the development of HR and/or L&D strategy to drive sustained business performance.
